You are invited to enjoy warm Scottish hospitality in the historic Henry S. Morey house, built in 1859 as a Gold Rush era farm house. It is a gracious, rambling, one-story estate, surrounded by a 1.6 acre wooded glen. Comfortably furnished and decorated with Scottish antiques, GlenMorey House provides a quiet, relaxing retreat for our guests. Situated on a hill, high above old Placerville, in the heart of the historic district, and secluded in its own private forest of mature evergreen and deciduous trees, GlenMorey offers the best of both worlds.
Our grounds have many quiet spots to relax, while just a short walk from Main Street's antique shops, fine restaurants, and art galleries. We are located 8 miles from the Marshall Gold discovery site in Coloma, with rafting and gold panning in the American River. We are just a ten minute drive from Apple Hill orchards and wineries. Visit us on your way to Lake Tahoe, which is only an hour away. Nearby: Placerville's Historic District, Main Street, Gold Bug Mine, and the intersection of Hwy. 50 and historic Hwy. 49. See also Attractions. Rooms & Daily Rates: Each of our 3 generous guestrooms is decorated in its own unique style. All have a queen-sized bed and feather duvet. A full gourmet breakfast is served in the morning, and you are welcomed with coffee, tea, Scottish shortbread and scones upon arrival. Complimentary beverages and snacks are always available. The St. Andrews ~ Our St. Andrews suite is a very inviting room decorated in restful blue and white. It is furnished with a pine armoire, queen sized four poster bed and faux fireplace. The showpiece of this room is its grand bath, which is the size of a small bedroom and fitted with a restored antique clawfoot tub and ladies' vanity.
The Inverness ~ The Inverness is our largest room and exudes comfort with plush wall to wall carpeting and decor of roses and pastels. This room also contains an extra twin and trundle bed, sleeping up to four persons. A white wicker sitting area invites window gazing at treetop level. This room has a private adjoining bathroom with shower.
Facility Rental: Spring through Fall, we offer the rental of our house and grounds for weddings, receptions, and parties. Our wedding package is ideal for couples who wish to plan their own wedding or hire a wedding coordinator. We provide breakfast both mornings, as well as the use of our dining room for your rehearsal dinner. We can recommend fine caterers and wedding services in the area at your request.
